On March 31, 2004, a bus accident in Sichuan was reported in the world media. The director Ying Liang witnessed the bus accident when he was shooting another film. This is a fiction film, reflecting current Japan's situation with the aftermath of the earthquake/tsunami and the nuclear power plant accident. "Condolences" shows new possibilities about how film can deal with reality and fiction after a disaster.

Tae-su is a wealthy businessman living a happy married life. But he loses all of his money overnight when he underwrites a friend's debt. Though his wife doesn't want to move to a small cheap house, he has no choice. There, a young precocious girl takes an interest in him, but her father interferes in their relationship… It has become difficult even for people with a high educational background to find jobs in Korea, and wealth disparity is a big problem. The original international title was "Sins of Fathers" when the film was screened at Puchon International Fantastic Film Festival last year.

A European husband and his Vietnamese wife live in a port town in Vietnam after retirement. One morning, the husband goes fishing. The local fishermen tell him that they have finished and will go home, but he keeps swimming alone in the sea. When he doesn't come home by nightfall, the wife is worried and asks the police to search for him, but is turned away. The next morning, the husband, in a business suit, comes back from the sea. Is he alive, or a ghost? This film's bold and eccentric touch gained much attention at the Busan International Film Festival last year.
