Synopsis
A farmer, Jihei, who lives in a mountain village with his pregnant wife, participates in a negotiation with the local lord, along with his brother-in-law and other villagers. A revolt breaks out, and Jihei decides to leave his wife and village. Seven years later, Jihei, living away in a town, finally decides to go back to his village. Tortured by remorse, he heads to the village…
Inspired by a real revolt called “Sanchu Ikki”, which occurred in Maniwa, Okayama Prefecture. Farmer-director YAMASAKI created this aspiring historical drama. Effectively inserting animation , the film portrays Jihei’s inner sentiments. The black and white scenes of snowy mountains and aerial shots are astonishingly beautiful.
