Synopsis: Xiaoxun left her hometown with her boyfriend Brother Zhi, taking a job as a hostess for him. Before long, he broke up with her and started dating her best friend An-An. Xiaoxun thought she could separate herself emotionally, but she’s only grown more attached. Xiaoxun can’t handle the heavy drinking hostess lifestyle, so Brother Zhi arranges a new job for her visiting inmates in prison. Her job is to talk to them and keep them company while showing affection. Among the inmates she visits with is 2923, whose silence and calm makes an immediate impression on Xiaoxun. He becomes the only friend she can confide in, and his insight helps her to start reflecting on her own life. She’s finally able to start pulling herself away from her toxic relationship with Brother Zhi while looking forward to her visits with 2923, who soon smiles for the first time…
Director’s Message/Statement: I believe that momentary interactions between people can have a profound effect on each other’s lives. 2923 is a story about two lonely souls, Xiaoxun and 2923, who make an intimate connection.
