Synopsis

The glow of a computer screen lights up the face of a young woman named Ai. She lives something of a nocturnal life, her daytime activity mainly being her part-time job as a mascot in a shopping street and acting classes but night seems to be where she prefers to dwell as she looks up X-rated videos on the internet and goes to clubs when most others are asleep. One night time tryst turns into a nightmare as Ai discovers that a sex tape of her was made without her knowledge and is now circulating online. This revelation plunges Ai into a world of paranoia that shatters her perception of herself and reality and leaves her with terror as the video causes her to lose all bearings in her life.

Set in Osaka, while its black-and-white sheen makes everything pretty, the sense of dislocation and paranoia over constant surveillance, technological intrusion into everyday life, and a disconnection from others and ourselves lends the film a technohorror atmosphere. A Lynchian dread of the shadowy worlds that exist behind our shared reality emerges as Ai falls into one before our very eyes.
