Synopsis

Ugyen (Sherup DORJI) is a teacher in Thimpu, the capital of Bhutan, and he lives with his grandmother. Despite this security, he has dreams of adventure running through his head and has applied for a visa to Australia where he plans on becoming a singer. Fate has other things in mind and when his boss sends him to teach at a school in the remote mountain village Lunana, he has to pause his plans and head out into the country. After spending more than a week trekking along a steep mountain road, he arrives at the village and finds a place totally removed from modern life – as in no electricity or any modern conveniences. Worse still, the school lacks any teaching equipment. While Ugyen has thoughts of quitting, meeting the kind villagers and his adorable students makes him reconsider…

Shot on location and with the help of locals, the filmmakers make the most of the stunning landscape to provide a beautiful view as we get a story of a person unlocking a new part of themselves through an appreciation of the natural beauty of Bhutan.
