Synopsis

Bangladesh is no exception to the impact of content streaming on the film industry—a trend accelerated by the Covid-19 pandemic. Many movies and dramas produced in Bangladesh are shared to Bangladeshi communities around the world. In this context, film director Mejbaur Rahman Sumon has emerged as a driving force of streaming service subscribers. After directing a number of television dramas, he made his feature film debut with “Hawa” (Wind). It was released simultaneously in Bangladesh, North America, and Europe in 2022, and immediately became an unprecedented blockbuster hit.

After a fishing boat out of Cox's Bazar in southeastern Bangladesh sets out, a beautiful but rebellious woman suddenly turns up in the fishermen’s catch and taunts them. Are the strange happenings and destruction on board due to the woman, or is something more sinister at play? The story of the magnificent Bay of Bengal, the mysterious woman, and raw, careless men infuses a new breath into the Bangladeshi cinematic world. [MINAMIDE Kazuyo]
