Synopsis

“The Tailor” take audiences on a dazzling dramatic tour of the beautiful clothes of Vietnam as the filmmakers show Saigon in the 1960s, contrasting a gentle and refined place in the past with today’s dynamic city.

The Ao Dai is the traditional Vietnamese dress and one fashion house in Saigon has excelled in designing it for many generations. When we visit the boutique, it is 1969 and the heyday of the dress. However, the arrogant daughter of the owners, Nhu Y, is inspired by Audrey Hepburn and only interested in Western outfits. One day, through the power of magic, she is transported to her future, finding herself old and alcoholic and having failed to manage the place. That is not the case for her mother’s tailor, the earnest Tanroan, who has become the best designer in Vietnam. How did Nhu Y’s fall take place? We see the story of two families, all dedicated to the art of dressmaking and trying to be successful tailors in a fabric shop filled with drama.
