A human head, sans the body, links the lives of a female student, a cellist, an autistic teenager, a police detective, a prostitute, a teacher and a dog. As the police investigate and try and find the body, a culprit and a motive, it seems that the link between these disparate people goes deeper than first expected and as detectives root around for answers, they discover everything leads to keywords starting with the letter "G". With every twist in the case, the desperation felt by people in Hong Kong begins to resonate strongly until the grisly truth is revealed.
This delivers a unique Hong Kong tale that details the corruption, crime and despair at the heart of the city for both natives and mainland Chinese. It is all buoyed by performances from the likes of veteran Chapman To (recipient of OAFF 2018’s Osaka Asia Star Award) and new actress Hana Chen in this grueling and blackly comic experience.
- Director’s Message/Statement
Youth may be pure and hopeful, but in this cramp city that is growing narrower by the day, all the things and people crowded together start to impact on one another.
Living in the capital of capitalism, self-preservation is key while external packaging is more important than having any real substance. You don’t need to understand it. This is simply the nature of how things have become.
Using a series of "G" words as reference points, G Affairs depicts the rarity of normalcy in this city - where humanistic concerns have turned into indifference, where hypocrisy and oppression rule, and distorted values subsume the new generation.
This is our vision in response to what Hong Kong has become.
