"WHOLE" is a sensitive and insightful drama that questions what it is to be mixed race in Japan. It was directed by KAWAZOE Bilal, a rising director, whose previous film "Nami to Tomoni" (With the Waves/波と共に) was shown at the Short Film Corner at Cannes.

The travails of a young woman made to babysit forms the basis of a story about the yearning for freedom in “Babe's Not Alone”, winner of the Best Live Action Short Film Award at the 2017 Golden Horse Awards. It was directed by LEE Yi Shan, a university lecturer and an indie filmmaker.

"For Rei", a fascinating character study of an introverted woman with a broken childhood, was directed by SAKAMOTO Yukari, an indie filmmaker who made a segment of the omnibus movie “21st Century Girl” (2019) and it stars OGAWA An who will appear in OAFF 2021 films "Sweet Bitter Candy" and "A New Wind Blows".

“La Petite Mort” is a story of a middle-aged woman bearing many burdens who yearns for change when she gets a new job. It struck a chord with audiences for its social realism. It was directed by Yvette CHOU, produced by Taiwanese actress KWAI Lun-mei, and stars TSAI Ming-liang's muse, LU Yi-ching.
