The jury has finally decided to award BELOVED for its unusual portrait of a metropolitan business woman/single mother struggling between career and family in contemporary Chinese society, but with a personal trauma that goes along with the history between Japan and China. And most of all, for its tender but powerful story that narrates a love of family that transcends blood-relationship.
