Li Qianhua is a Japanese orphan left behind after World War II. Before she dies, Li Qianhua asks a private detective to find her adopted daughter Lu Xueni's biological mother Wang Yufen. A woman by that name suddenly arrives from the countryside and her appearance changes Xueni's life. The encounter between the optimistic peasant woman and the successful but arrogant business executive gives the latter an opportunity to re-examine her life.
