- Synopsis
- A mainland university student in Hong Kong in dire need of money to pay for surgery for her brother accepts a lucrative offer from a wealthy couple to act as a surrogate mother. Ensconced in luxurious surroundings, Yazi (ZHU Zhiying) is shocked to learn in the eighth week of pregnancy that the couple has decided to terminate the contract and thus the pregnancy. With no legal recourse, Yazi flees and secludes herself in an island village, but is located by the genetic father Yuk (Jacky CHEUNG), and emotional involvement melds with moral rights and responsibilities. First-time director Kiwi CHOW, with a strong sense of story and pacing, looks at the complicated ethics of reproductive rights through a heartfelt lens.
