Special Screenings
Special Programs <Taiwan: Movies on the Move 2014>
In cooperation with the Ministry of Culture, Taiwan and the Taipei Cultural Center of Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Office in Japan, OAFF 2014 will showcase excellent new Taiwanese films that mirror the current Taiwan, and also hold a program entitled “Taiwanese-language Films and Japan”.
[Taiwanese-language Films and Japan]
Many Taiwanese-language films were produced in Taiwan in 1960s, but because most of the production companies were small, not many of the films had not been well archived. The recent efforts to gather and restore these scattered films have achieved some positive results, and we are able to screen one of the films, “Guitar at Hot Spring (unofficial title)”, for the first time outside Taiwan.
Special Programs <Special Focus on Hong Kong 2014>
In cooperation with the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office (Tokyo) and the Hong Kong Tourism Board, OAFF 2014 will focus on films by up-and-coming filmmakers from Hong Kong. In addition, we will show three masterpiece films from the golden era of Hong Kong film in the Special Screenings in Memory of Run Run Shaw.
[Special Screenings in Memory of Run Run Shaw]
Shaw Brothers Studio in Hong Kong produced numerous great films from 1960s to 1970s, regarded as a golden age of Hong Kong film. The father of Hong Kong’s movie Industry, Run Run Shaw, who passed away in the beginning of 2014 at the age of 106, nurtured many filmmakers and stars. OAFF 2014 will show three masterpieces from the Shaw Brothers.
Special Programs <Memorial 3.11 - Three Years from Great East Japan Earthquake>
It has been three years since the unprecedented earthquake and recovery is proceeding slowly. We have chosen three films among many films which deal with the disaster, and we will also hold a talk event.
