Synopsis
The first part of this film captures a train trip to the south of Taiwan, showing scenery in Taoyuan, Hsinchu, Taichung and Tainan. The second part is a record of a girls' high school trip. This untitled film doesn't clearly show the school's name, so it isn't clear if the girls in the film belong to a school in Taipei. After the record of their sports festival, the film shows their trip to Tofukuji in Kyoto, Kamakura's Great Buddha, Nikko Toshogu Shrine, the palace, and Sensoji in Asakusa. School trips from Taiwan to Japan mainly took place from 1935 to 1940; the trips usually lasted for three weeks to a month, but the program stopped around 1945, because of the course of the war. The edge codes of this film show that the film stock used for the first part was made in 1930, and the second part was from 1934. Therefore, these two parts were shot separately, and someone edited them to make one documentary.(In Cooperation with Planet Film Archive)
