- Synopsis
- Toshio is a man in his autumnal years who lives alone in an old neighborhood, where redevelopment is taking place. The town's atmosphere quickly changes from Christmas festivities to New Year's. A movie crew is emotionlessly filming in Asakusa, where Toshio lives. One day, a girl who used to live nearby, Mieru, comes back to the town and visits Toshio. Old Toshio doesn't expect any changes, but young Mieru is full of hope and energy. Their reunion reveals a subtle distance between them, which is cold but warm at the same time.
"VISITOR OF A YEAR" is the latest mid-length film by AOISHI Taro, an award winner at the 34th Pia Film Festival with his "PLEASE PLEASE ME" in 2012. Using wistful saxophone sounds, AOISHI keenly depicts the transition of the cityscape and Toshio's feelings in this excellent film. Director: AOISHI Taro
Born in 1989 and grew up in Tokyo. AOISHI first wanted to be a mathematician, but switched paths. In 2008, he entered Musashino Art University, where he started filmmaking. His 2002 graduation work, "PLEASE PLEASE ME" received the Japan Film Pen Club Award at the 34th Pia Film Festival. His independent film of 2013, "VISITOR OF A YEAR", was screened at film festivals in Tokyo and Yokohama. In 2014, he has completely changed his idea and methods of filmmaking. His latest work is entitled "Jet Stream".
