Synopsis

An elderly photographer named Chie has returned to Taiwan from the US and reveals to her granddaughter a piece of the island’s history that involves her sister Iong-ha (LIN Yuto) and her sister’s sweetheart Kong-sui (CHEN Ting-chung) back when they were high school students and she was in elementary school for, in the year 1947, they were caught up in the 228 Incident where students from Kaohsiung clashed with the Nationalist army.

In a restrained retelling of a real-life incident that has been sealed by the Taiwanese government for over 70 years, the tragic loss of youth is highlighted via flashbacks utilising period details and a bittersweet story of first love that will remain unspoiled by the vicissitudes of time.

Director's Message
After successive generations of colonization, Taiwan is on the long road of rediscovering its identity. As a generation born after the end of the martial law (1987), I hope the viewers can experience the pivotal moment of Taiwanese identity transformation after the WII from the perspective of a young woman, whose identity has never been officially recorded in history.
