Synopsis

In a special gala screening, audiences will be able to watch the world premiere of the first episode of Twisted Strings, a seven-part TV anthology series written and directed by Golden Horse-nominated director, HUANG Xi (Missing Johnny) and executive produced by HOU Hsiao-hsien (The Assassin). The actor LEE Kang-sheng, famous for his collaborations with director TSAI Ming-liang in films such as “Rebels of the Neon God,” “What Time Is It There?,” and “Goodbye, Dragon Inn,” appears in the series.

For the series opener, Monday, the children of Guo Boxiang gather for his funeral which he has pre-arranged. As the funeral director (LEE Kang-sheng) gently guides the two brothers and sister, it is evident that each has their own agenda as they do their best to dodge the responsibility and cut corners. Soon, a blackly comic ceremony of errors unfolds and it appears that the funeral director is the only one who cares but will he ensure a perfect ending or the beginning of a series of strange incidents?

Director's Message
Murmurs that make us tremble. We Chinese avoid talking about death. We treat it as if it is a taboo subject. Though we are alive now, eventually we will all die. Beyond the terrifying ghost stories, we are telling stories about how people deal with death. Twisted Strings is a satire anthology of selfishness, greed, and ignorance…
