Synopsis

Aki, a shy junior high student, deals with her embarrassment over her stutter and her quarrelling parents by burying herself in books and Western music. Yoomi, a composer with little confidence or motivation works at a bar and studio to avoid facing questions she has about the direction she should take with her life. The two are neighbours passing each other by with little contact but one night they gaze at the same winter sky and a brief connection is formed. Director TSUKADA masterfully takes audiences into the lives of people who feel fully formed and accompanies them as they navigate a cold and demanding world full of friction before finding a moment of comfort that provides an uplifting feeling.
