Synopsis

1867. Shin Jae-Hyo teaches traditional pansori Korean musical storytelling. A young girl, Chae-Sun, who wants to perform pansori, comes to see him. Chae-Sun has dreamed of performing pansori since she first heard Shin Jae-Hyo perform when she was little, but he refuses because women are not allowed. Chae-Sun then disguises herself as a man to learn pansori; Shin Jae-Hyo decides to teach the gifted Chae-Sun, but if anyone finds out that she is a woman, they will both face death. The film, with its gorgeous cinematography and immersive music, is a celebration of the emotional power of art and dreams.
