KOO Kyo-hwan - Synopsis
A scandalous X-ray photograph of two people caught having sex causes trouble at a hospital and rumours spread. Nurse, Yeo Yoon-young thinks it might be her and her boyfriend and intends to resign but when she arrives at work no one else is there except the hospital’s deputy, Dr Lee. Apparently, everyone called in sick but Lee has her suspicions that they are lying. While this commotion is going on, strange sinkholes start to appear at random in Seoul and young labourers, including Yoon-young’s slacker boyfriend, are mobilized to fill them in.
Off-beat and likeable, this is an amusing film manages to connect these random story elements as it circles around the idea of doubt and misunderstanding infecting human relationships. It is delivered with a wry sense of humour and visual style by new director Ok-seop YI and really comes to life when new actress Lee Joo-young is on the screen as Yoon-young.
- Director’s Message/Statement
- I kept quiet even though I knew something was not true. Watching the growing misunderstanding, I felt that the world would adapt to that misunderstanding. Confidence is free from doubt, and so it can be very dangerous. My film describes the process of achieving confidence. But how should I behave after learning the truth?
