When androgynous tattoo artist Phoenix DU (Peace YANG) becomes the target of a politically motivated hit, her brutal response to the attack pulls her into the orbit of a prosecutor named Jade LIU (WENG Chia Wei), a prim-and-proper woman who is guilt-ridden from the suicide of her gay brother and her strict Catholic upbringing. It’s a case of true love as these total opposites fall into passionate emotional and physical love, Phoenix using her forceful nature to pull out Jade’s latent lesbianism. This is just before Jade sends Phoenix to prison for three-and-a-half years. This love redirects both their lives as Phoenix sees hope in her prosectur while Jade fears her desire and marries YE Meng (HSU Yu Ting), the genderless young man she saved from prison who reminds her of her brother...
This is the first instalment of Zero CHOU’s planned six-film series about the LGBT+ communities of different Asian cities. Here, she presents a handsomely shot suspense storyline with a cut-up narrative of confessions, time jumps, and abstract dance that is fun in its non-stop lurid melodrama of a hot-blooded love quadrangle that breaks all of the rules, both legal and taste-wise, as four damaged souls act out their desire.
