Moon CHOI

Korea|Actress

CHOI is a Korean actress who debuted in "Lifting King Kong" (2009). In 2017, CHOI achieved widespread recognition and acclaim for her breakthrough role in “Anarchist from the Colony” (the opening film for OAFF 2018) in which her performance as activist KANEKO Fumiko won her 12 awards including “Best New Actress” at Grand Bell Awards and Blue Dragon Film Awards. For her latest starring work "Our Body" (2018), she received the Busan International Film Festival "Actress of the Year" award. The film is screened in OAFF 2019. CHOI grew up in Korea, Japan and the United States and is a talent to watch.

SATO Yoshinori (佐藤慶紀)

Japan|Director

SATO was born in Aichi Prefecture and is a graduate of the filmmaking course at the University of Southern California. He has worked as a director in Japanese television while at the same time producing independent films. His film credits include “Bad Child”(2013) and “Her Mother” which played at OAFF2017. His newest work, documentary “Shinjuku Tiger”(新宿タイガー)(2019) will be screened at OAFF 2019.

Kazu WATANABE

USA|Deputy Director of Film at Japan Society

WATANABE is the Deputy Director of Film at Japan Society in New York City, where he organizes a diverse selection of classic and contemporary Japanese cinema screenings—including retrospectives, thematic series, and premieres—throughout the year. In addition, he is responsible for the planning and execution of JAPAN CUTS: Festival of New Japanese Film, the largest festival of its kind in North America, for which he also serves as a programmer. Since 2016, he has served as a jury member for the Osaka Asian Film Festival’s JAPAN CUTS Award.
