- Synopsis
- Cocoa is on the verge of graduating from high school. She is determined to escape her rural home town, and leave her feckless father and brother behind by going to a university in Tokyo. But she faces an uphill struggle because university fees cost a lot and her impoverished family aren’t much help. She works hard to earn honest money but also dabbles in work as a video fetish performer which leads to problems with the criminal underworld. Will she find the strength to define her own way in life? - Stories of high school girls are quite common but this sticks to a realistic spectrum of potentials, pressures, and pitfalls for people in a small Japanese town. With a quiet display of class consciousness in a simple but effective script full of heartfelt moments of everyday hope and despair, and, in introducing a persuasive performance from a new acting talent in KITAI Aya, director MATSUGAMI Genta delivers a compelling story of someone finding self-determination in desperate circumstances.
