Synopsis

Sujin, a college student goes to a part-time babysitter interview and meets Mrs. Lee, a working single mother who needs a babysitter to look after her 4 year-old daughter Hana. Sujin is hired on the spot to start right a way but soon after she is left alone with Hana, strange things start to happen.

“HANA” is a striking minimalist supernatural short film from genre-cinema enthusiast, NAKANISHI Mai. She has worked in horror and with some famous genre stalwarts, producing for SONO Sion as well as producing the Japanese segments for the horror anthology “ABCS of DEATH2”. NAKANISHI is currently working on turning “HANA” into a feature with prominent arthouse auteur, Eric KHOO.

Director’s Message/Statement
Inspired by my own childhood experience growing up, HANA portrays a story of the mother and the daughter who will never be able to connect physically and emotionally. I wanted to make HANA not as a conventional horror film but realistic yet haunting and emotional drama showing something of the social realities of a family with a working mother in contemporary South Korea and Japan.
