Fujio, given three months to live due to cancer, has lost his wife, and his son has lost his job. After the Great East Japan Earthquake, Fujio returns home and determines to die of hunger and mummify in his son’s room. The son tries to persuade Fujio for days and days, but he never listens...
Inspired by the recent pension fraud cases in Japan, "Japan's Tragedy" ironically depicts tragedies really happening throughout Japan today. Tatsuya Nakadai from director Kobayashi's "Haru's Journey" gives a quiet but strong performance as Fujio.
