"The Tale of Chung-Hyang" beautifully and radically reinterprets the classic Korean love story "The Tale of Bang-ja". With the help of his servant Bandja, Lee Mong Ryong, the son of a high ranking family, repeatedly meets with Chung Hyang, the daughter of a gisaeng (a female entertainer). While mercenary Chung Hyang is ultimately drawn to Lee Mong Ryong, she is simultaneously attracted to Bandja's untamed allure. The film humorously and sensually describes the three characters' desires and emotions and was a massive hit in South Korea, watched by over three million viewers.
