The biggest hit in 2011 in Taiwan, "Warriors of the Rainbow" depicts the Wushe Uprising in 1930 by the Seediq indigenous people against colonial Japanese forces in Taiwan. This first part of the diptych, "Warriors of the Rainbow I: Sun Flag," shows the long suffering of the Seediq people who were forced into Japanese-style life and hard labor, and their proud determination leading to the uprising. Familiar faces for the Japanese audience, such as Masanobu Ando, Vivian Hsu and Yuichi Kimura are in the film.
