Yoshiryu (Qin Hao), who is considered a Go genius in China, comes to Japan to hone his skills in the game. But he is too busy earning a living to study Go at all. One day, he meets an old woman hawking vegetables, Igarashi (Chieko Baisho), on the train. Actually, Igarashi is a descendant of a prestigious Go family…
"Tokyo Newcomer" is the latest film by Jiang Qinmin of "The Last Sunflower" and "Sky Lovers" (the winner of the 2002 Tokyo International Film Festival Best Artistic Contribution).
