A-rui has run the family hairdressers in an old-fashioned area of Taichung for more than 40 years. With her tireless attitude and her stylist skills, she is a community institution as many have passed through her doors. Even her children, as flighty and dismissive as they are, follow in her hairstyling footsteps. However, at a time when A-rui should be taking it easy, she refuses to take a day off and embarks upon a long journey to take care of a client.

Director FU Tien-yu returns to her hometown of Taichung to deliver DAY OFF, a beautifully-shot Kore-eda-esque family drama that depicts the bonds between different generations of working people in Taiwan.

Golden Horse award winning actress LU Hsiao-Fen (“A Flower in the Raining Night” (1983)) returns to the screen for the first time in more than 20 years to play A-rui, a woman whose adventures show touching moments of kindness and consideration that are sure to touch the hearts of viewers.
